For the last year, you've probably heard people chanting "Let's go Brandon," or seen the phrase on T-shirts and signs. But what does it mean and where did it start?
It all began on Oct. 2, when NASCAR driver Brandon Brown won his first Xfinity race at Talladega Superspeedway. NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast was interviewing him and a crowd that can be heard chanting in the background, though it's difficult to make out what they are saying. She misheard the chants as "Let's go Brandon," and the phrase quickly went viral.
It's become a popular meme, and some politicians -- including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis -- have even embraced it. The president's motorcade drove past a "Let's go Brandon" banner as it passed through Plainfield, New Jersey, and the chant was heard outside a recent Biden appearance in Virginia. The hashtag #letsgobrandon is also trending on Twitter. It's a much more palatable alternative to the more explicit "Fuck Joe Biden," which can't be used on social media or in public.
