Organising My Sister’s 21st Birthday Celebration

When my sister put me in charge of planning her 21st birthday celebration, my first thought was, “Why me, universe? Why me?” Don’t get me wrong—I absolutely love my sister. It’s just her picky nature that makes things… complicated. But honestly, when your sibling asks you so sweetly (which, let’s be real, is rare), how can you say no? She didn’t want a big party, just a day filled with fun around our city, Sydney. I rolled my eyes so hard they nearly got stuck. A party would’ve been so much easier! Instead, I found myself drafting a list: shopping, homemade cake, a Sydney Harbour lunch cruise… okay, maybe this could actually be fun?
Here’s how the day unfolded:
The Great Wake-Up Surprise
I kicked things off with a birthday wake-up that didn’t involve yelling “Get up, it’s your birthday!!” (Yes, I’m evolving.) Even though she didn’t want a party, I knew she’d appreciate some royal treatment. So, I snuck into her room with her go-to coffee order (oat milk, two espresso shots, one ice cube), buttery croissants, and the birthday card I’ve been hand making for her every single year since she was little. She teared up reading it. Victory was mine.
Shopping Spree
If there’s one thing my sister loves, it’s shopping. She wanted to pick up some cute new clothes, so off we went to Paddington for a proper spree. And when we shop, we go all out. Hours passed, arms filled with bags, and yet somehow, neither of us was tired. Honestly, I think shopping is one of our best bonding rituals. We hit up a bunch of boutiques and maybe made a few financially questionable decisions. But hey, it’s the birthday girl—we weren’t saying no to anything.
Lunch With Friends
Her friends had already made plans to “borrow” her for a couple of hours, and they took her on a Sydney Harbour lunch cruise. Perfect timing for me to clock out of birthday planner mode and catch up on adulting. When she got back, she was beaming and carrying a haul of gifts. Pretty sure that means they nailed it.
Golden Hour Photoshoot
No birthday is complete without a dramatic photo session, right? So, in the evening, I had her get all dressed up (not that she needed much convincing) and whisked her away for a golden hour photoshoot. She looked straight-up ethereal. Not that I told her that. I was more like her personal hype team, holding her lip gloss and shouting “YAAAS QUEEN!” every five minutes. Totally worth it.
The Family Dinner Finale
To wrap up the day, we had a cozy family dinner at home with all her favourite dishes—and a homemade cake that, shockingly, I didn’t ruin. Okay, it leaned slightly to one side, but no one noticed once I added a sparkler. She made a wish, and even if she didn’t say it out loud, I could tell she was already living it.
By the time she curled up on the couch with a sleepy grin and whispered, “This was perfect,” I knew I’d nailed it. But when I asked her what her favourite part was, she had the nerve to say it was hanging with her friends on the Sydney Harbour lunch cruise! She had to be joking… right? Right?
Would I plan her next birthday too? Definitely. But I’m raising the stakes—a sibling foot massage and full TV remote control for life. Fair’s fair.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves the removal or repositioning of excess skin, muscle, and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. This can be done for purely cosmetic reasons, to make the eyes look more youthful and alert, or for medical reasons, such as when droopy eyelids interfere with a person’s field of vision. In Delhi, many surgeons offer both upper and lower blepharoplasty, often combining it with other procedures like brow lifts or laser resurfacing for enhanced results.

How I Make Amends With My Wife

My wife and I rarely find ourselves on opposite sides of a disagreement, and honestly, I count that among life’s greatest gifts. But on the odd occasion when a little cloud drifts across our otherwise sunny skies, we have a sweet little rule: apologies must come with a thoughtful gesture—something we know will truly make the other smile.
Now, my wife is a phenomenal cook. So her way of saying sorry usually involves creating something utterly delicious. As for me? Let’s just say my culinary skills don’t go far beyond a passable tuna sandwich—so I’ve had to get a bit more inventive.
Here are a few of my personal favourites:
Harbour Surprise
This was one of my proudest apology moments. After a tiny bump in our otherwise smooth relationship, I sent her a text asking her to meet me at the harbour. She wasn’t exactly thrilled at the time—still a little grumpy, I’ll admit—but she came anyway. And there, waiting for her, was a surprise: tickets to a Sydney dinner cruise.
She was completely taken aback! Needless to say, she had a wonderful time, and my apology sailed through smoothly.
The Post-it Note Redemption
There are times when finding the right words feels impossible, especially when you’re stuck in that “I really messed up” mindset. So, I took the simple route: Post-it notes. I grabbed a stack of neon ones and scribbled down 20 reasons why I love her. Some were obvious (“Your cooking is amazing”), others more heartfelt (“You make everything feel like home”), and I placed them all around the house like a heartfelt scavenger hunt.
The final note was stuck to the fridge door, with a doodled heart and a bashful, “Sorry I was a dork.”
Origami Flower Bouquet
This one was definitely a labour of love—and involved a lot of trial and error. After a silly little argument (I may or may not have forgotten the trash again), I decided to try something hands-on. I used to be pretty good at origami, so I gave it another shot.
After a few failed folds and one paper cut, I managed to put together a bright bouquet of origami flowers. When I handed it to her—dramatically, I might add—she looked at it, then at me, and burst into laughter. That bouquet still sits proudly on her desk.
The Compliment Storm
This one’s a regular feature, and easily the most effective. When you’re good with words, lean into them! After those minor disagreements that leave us both slightly off-kilter, I make up for it by flooding her with compliments all day long. No sarcasm, no jokes—just genuine love and appreciation.
I text her sweet things, whisper compliments when I walk by, and even sneak little notes into her shoes. By lunchtime, she’s usually blushing. By dinner, she’s forgiven me—though she often asks if I’ve bumped my head. Mission: accomplished.
Disagreements happen. They’re part of life. But what I’ve learned is that fixing things isn’t about proving who’s right—it’s about bringing back the laughter, the warmth, and the smiles. After all, we’re a team. And if nothing else works, there’s always the promise of another round of cookies.
