Xét về mặt triết lý quản lý:
KPI tập trung vào việc duy trì và đo lường hiệu suất hiện tại, đảm bảo các hoạt động trong doanh nghiệp, tổ chức vận hành ổn định và đúng hướng.
OKR thì hướng đến tương lai, luôn khuyến khích tổ chức đặt ra những mục tiêu đầy tham vọng, đột phá, thúc đẩy sự đổi mới ngay cả khi không đạt được 100%.
Xét về cách thiết lập:
KPI được thiết lập dựa trên tình hình hiện tại và khả năng thực tế của từng tổ chức. Mỗi KPI sẽ là một chỉ tiêu cụ thể cần phải đạt được.
OKR bắt đầu bằng một mục tiêu định tính (Objective) có tính truyền cảm hứng, sau đó được cụ thể hóa thành 3–5 kết quả then chốt (Key Results) có thể đo lường được.
Xét về văn hóa tổ chức:
KPI thường tạo ra môi trường làm việc an toàn, nhân viên chỉ cần tập trung hoàn thành chỉ tiêu đặt ra. Trái lại, OKR thúc đẩy tinh thần làm việc, khuyến khích chấp nhận rủi ro và học hỏi từ thất bại để hướng tới kết quả vượt trội hơn.
Tóm lại, KPI giúp bạn duy trì hoạt động ổn định và đo lường thành công hiện tại, còn OKR giúp bạn xác định nơi bạn muốn đến và thúc đẩy bạn đạt được những thành tựu vượt trội. Hai công cụ này không loại trừ nhau mà bổ sung cho nhau.
