In terms of dimension, the Montero Sport is bigger than the Xpander in length, width, and height. The SUV has 4,785 x 1,815 x 1,835 mm, the wheelbase is 2,800 mm, and the ground clearance is 218 mm. Meanwhile, the MPV car has 4,595 x 1,750 x 1,750 mm, a wheelbase of 2,775 mm, and a slightly higher ground clearance, 225 mm.

The SUV has a 2.4L diesel engine with four inline Cylinders and 16 DOHC valves. As a result, the maximum power and torque are 170hp and 430 Nm. In addition, the GLX variant uses a 6-speed manual transmission; other high-end variants use an 8-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the MPV line is equipped with a 1.5L gasoline engine, 4 Cylinders in line, and 16 DOHC valves. The maximum power and torque are lower, about 103hp and 141 Nm. According to Mitsubishi Xpander specs, the GLX MT variant has a 5-speed manual transmission; the other variants are 4-speed automatic.
Regarding fuel consumption, Montero Sport is about 10.8 - 11.9km/L, lower than Xpander, approximately 14 - 14.7km/l, the average figure in the city and highway.
Technology & Safety Features
In terms of infotainment, the Sports car has a display unit that is a 6.75-inch touch screen, with links by AUX, Bluetooth, and MirrorLink (for smartphones). Its competitor has a 7-inch high-resolution touchscreen, the same connectivity as above, and a GPS navigation system. The high-end variant also has an additional dash cam.
Regarding safety, both have standard equipment such as driver, passenger, and side airbags, anti-theft devices, seat belt warnings, child safety locks, ABS and EDB, crash sensor, engine warnings, etc. However, Xpander does not have traction control and balance system like its rival.
